1. Pick a stackable washer and dryer model.

First, make sure you have a stackable washer and dryer model. If you're uncertain, your user manual is a good place to start. Both appliances should line up from top to bottom when stacked.

Pro tip: All Bosch washers and clothes dryers are stackable. Want extra peace of mind? Select stackable washer and dryer models from the same product series.

2. Consider your space.

How much room do you need? Check your washer and dryer dimensions. Make sure to consider the height of your washer, dryer and your stacking kit.

  • Standard 60-cm washers and dryers are usually each 85 cm in height.
  • Both machines will take up around 0.6 cubic metres.
  • Allow for an additional 50 to 80 mm on each side for cords and vents, and for heat to escape.

3. What you need to stack your washer and dryer.

  • Spirit level
  • Stacking kit
  • Anti-slip strips
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • A trusted helper
  • Fastening strap (optional)

Now it's time to assemble your gear. Here's what you need to build your laundry care unit.

4. Level your washing machine.

Avoid a leaning laundry tower by making sure your washer is level before you stack. Here's how it works: place a spirit level on top of your washer. If the bubble is right between the two lines, your washer is level. If the bubble floats toward one side, that side is higher. Raise the opposite foot to level your appliance.

Pro tip: If your washing machine is on a hard surface like concrete or tile, use rubber caps to absorb vibrations and dampen noise. When placed under the feet of your washer, they'll also prevent unwanted movement.

5. Use a stacking kit.

For easy stacking, a stacking kit is a great choice. It usually consists of a frame and fixing elements like screws. The frame creates a small space between your appliances, distributing the weight of your dryer and absorbing vibrations.

6. Tape on anti-slip strips.

After levelling your washer and before mounting your stacking kit, don't forget to use anti-slip strips. Size them to match the feet of your dryer. Make sure the surface is clean and dry. Tape one onto each top corner of your washing machine.

7. Place the dryer on top of the washing machine.

Remember: always stack your dryer onto your washer, and not the other way around! This step should only be done by experienced, able personnel. You'll need at least two people to lift.

Clothes dryers are very heavy, so lifting should only be done with extreme caution. Squat and lift the dryer from below to stack it onto the washer.

Pro tip: Get everything ready and call a local service technician to do the heavy lifting.

How much does a clothes dryer weigh?

A clothes dryer weighs anywhere from 45 to 60 kilograms depending on the size, model and type. Make sure you have at least two people to lift your dryer.

Can I put a washer on top of a dryer?

No, you should only stack your dryer on top. Because they can get very heavy when filled with water, washing machines should stay on the floor. Washers also have high spin speeds, which increases the risk of accidents when stacked.

Can I transport a clothes dryer lying down?

It depends on your dryer model. Condenser dryers can be placed on their side, if necessary. Heat pump dryers should always be transported in an upright position.

Optional: Use a fastening strap.

A fastening strap helps you stack your appliances safely, especially when creating a freestanding unit. Follow these steps:

  • Start on one side: thread the strap down through the kit, with the lever on the strap pointing outwards.
  • Pass the strap under your washer and through the slot on the other side.
  • Mount the dryer onto your washer. Pull the strap over the dryer toward the belt tensioner.
  • Pass the strap through the centre slot of the tensioner.
  • Tighten the belt securely and click the lever into place.
